Damien du Kosto des Lascards vs Fabrice des Castagneux Sentimentaux.

Here we have a scintillating bout between two newcomers to the W&L scene, Damien and Fabrice; both young, both lightweights and both very much determined to impress!

At the outset, there’s plenty of time for sizing-up the fighters and placing your bets. Classically handsome Damien cuts a fantastic figure, outstanding in all the right places. He focuses on his opponent with the intensity of a laser beam and his keenness to get on with the job in hand positively radiates from the screen. Fabrice is lean and, one suspects, very mean - in spite of a pleasantly smiling disposition! He diverts his gaze from Damien as he psyches himself up for what he evidently believes will be a glittering debut on the W&L mats.

The warm-up alone boosts the excitement of impending combat to such an extent that you begin to fear just how much damage could be done once the handbrakes come off!

In the initial stages, Fabrice appears to have the edge, but really only by virtue of his marginally cooler head. He’s particularly clever with his legs, catching his opponent out on more than one occasion. Damien mimics this ploy and, as momentum builds, so tempers fray, chokeholds are applied with increasing venom and towards the end some more unorthodox moves come into play. One only has to look at the frustration on Damien’s face to fully appreciate what a struggle for dominance this becomes. Let’s just say that Fabrice isn’t smiling quite so much by the latter stages of the match!

At the end, the winner crows in triumph over one very pissed-off dude!

FIGHTERS: RONALD , YVON

Exclusive to W&L TV

Ronald de la Fosse aux Molosses vs Yvon des Typhons et Pythons.

Talk about a clash of the hunks! If it’s full-on, man-to-man combat you’re looking for, then you’ve come to the right place! Although fractionally shorter than Ronald, Yvon is every bit as solid and packs some impressive definition; goodness knows how long he’s been preparing for this encounter!

It’s clear from the start that this is to be a demonstration of uninhibited groundwork at its best, where falls of any description are earned only after sustained periods of titanic, sweat-drenched grappling at extremely close-quarters. And let’s not forget the occasional sprinkling of unorthodoxy to spice up the mixture - witness Yvon’s knee to Ronald’s groin and try holding back the tears yourself! As with his earlier bouts, Yvon is often prone to playing the vulnerable and injured lamb when the going gets particularly tough, only then to unleash outbursts of unprecedented violence (and animal screams!) towards a looming, but unprepared opponent.

Looming he might be, but unprepared, Ronald certainly is not….

The sustained intensity of combat here will have you reaching for an oxygen mask; quite how both fighters manage to keep the pace up is a mystery known only to themselves!

The final flourish – just when you think the show’s over – is as unexpected as it is satisfying.

FIGHTERS: BENJAMIN , CHRISTOPHE 1er

Benjamin des Mâtins Terrifiques vs Christophe de la Fosse aux Molosses.

“Attention everyone! We’re about to encounter some extremely stormy weather, so please fasten your seatbelts and start praying as soon as possible!” If you think this is an exaggeration, just wait until you witness the clash of muscle and egos in this third and final bout. The animosity on display here makes the clash between Ronald and Yvon in the preceding bout seem like an entente cordiale!

Since his last outing with W&L, Benjamin has matured in every sense of the word. He’s now a tough, beefy fighter in the NHB tradition, and the intensity of his eyes alone would be enough to scare even the most experienced of warriors. Christophe is – well - Christophe (i.e. one mean son-of-a-bitch, who, with the cockiness of a seasoned street-fighter, stops at nothing to gain an advantage). Being established stars of the W&L stables, both fighters know exactly what they’re up against, and both seem to relish the prospect of determining once and for all the identity of W&L Top Dog.

The fighting is (to put it mildly!) wild, intense and at times incredibly imaginative. Seeing Benjamin pinned by his throat, up-side-down against the wallbars, is a sight to behold, and one which beautifully illustrates the burning ambition at the heart of this fight.  It’s viscerally exciting stuff. Short of setting each other on fire, you wonder what on earth these guys have to do in order to secure the climactic advantage! This isn’t just wrestling – this is war!

Unfortunately, nothing is ever perfect in this vale of tears, for we must now confess to our only disappointment with this particularly memorable confrontation. On the day itself, it would appear that the zoom on the single camera being used was malfunctioning (either that, or the cameraman himself was put off his stroke by the sheer animal excitement of the occasion! Neither fighter had been expected to turn up, but when they did – at the eleventh hour, both pumped and eager for a knock-down, drag-out street fight - the atmosphere in the gym turned ballistic, and everyone involved became just that little bit nervous as to how the day would pan out!!)

We hope, therefore, that you will excuse the occasional lapses in picture quality; we at W&L reckon that these are more than compensated for by the excitement and quality of this titanic struggle and the heroic efforts made by both young warriors. Nonetheless, we promise to ensure that everything – equipment, fighters, you name it – are in 100% tip-top condition for what promises to be a scintillating rematch in the not-too-distant future!
